- Robert Kolčák and Julius Lapdavský take top honors in the Mitropa Rally Cup classification at the 58th Mecsek Rally in Hungary.
- In the historic class, it’s an Austrian win for Alois Nothdurfter and co-driver Siegfried Schrankl.
The Slovakian duo Robert Kolčák and Julius Lapdavský delivered a flawless performance in their Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 at the 58. Mecsek Rallye (13.-15.06.25), taking a commanding win and collecting maximum championship points. With a lead of over four and a half minutes, they stormed back to the top of the Mitropa Rally Cup standings.
Hungarian favorites Zoltán László and Zsolt László Balázs, also in a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, had a clean run as well – but couldn’t match the pace of the flying Czechs and had to settle for a strong second place on home soil.
Rounding out the podium were Hungary’s Imre Kocsis and István Bakos in their nimble Citroën C2 R2 Max. Kocsis kept Italian rival Simone Boscariol in check throughout the rally and was all smiles at the finish as he celebrated his well-earned third place.
The battle in the historic category took a dramatic turn on Sunday morning. Alfons Nothdurfter and Christian Roschker had led the field after Saturday in their Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4. But in the first stage on Sunday, Alfons spectacularly slid off into the woods – game over.
That opened the door for his brother Alois. Sitting third overnight, Alois Nothdurfter seized the opportunity, pulled ahead of Hungarian Huba Mang, and – together with co-driver and rally veteran Siegfried Schrankl – clinched victory in the historic class with a comfortable 2:25.2-minute lead in their Ford Sierra RS Cosworth.
Club Championship points went to the Hungarian team Csaba Juhász and Eszter Velezdi in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X R4. They were the sole contenders in this classification but still brought it home reliably.
